Many companies have fun events that allow employees to interact and have fun. These events are usually small parties or get-togethers. Here at Findaway we like to do things a little differently. Two weeks ago we had our first ever LAN party. It was a great event and was a lot of fun. We played a game called Company of heroes for PC which everyone purchased on the Steam platform for only 10 dollars.
As with anything that involves computers there can always be issues and challenges. One of the challenges of this event was finding computers for everyone to play on. We had to put together some computers from any parts we could find around the office. I brought in my own computer and an extra computer for someone else to use.
Once that was all resolved, I actually ran into an issue myself where my computer crashed and I had to re-install Windows. My hard drives had become non raid members in my raid 1 and the data on them was corrupted. So for the first hour I got my computer into working condition and then got the game installed. Once that was done I was back in action and joined a game with seven other coworkers.
The game was really strategic and it was interesting to play with people I didn’t interact much with during work. It gave me the opportunity to see how other people’s minds work in different situations and to really get to know some of the people in our office. It definitely brought the team closer and allowed people to work in groups they had never worked in before. To add to that, we got to use our technical skills just getting everyone set up and configured to play.
The LAN party was really fun, and I am really looking forward to the next one. Hopefully next time I don’t have to rebuild my computer before I can play.
